WormS is GamesArsenal’s snake: a grid, a growing worm, red food, and seven timed power-ups. It is a free original HTML5 game on this site, not a Nokia ROM dump. Score and high score live in localStorage under this browser. Steer in the cabinet above, then use this page as the field guide.

Controls

Arrow keys or WASD change heading. You cannot reverse into yourself in one tick. P or Space pauses during a run; Space after a game over restarts. Swipe on the canvas to steer on a phone — a short flick, not a drag-follow. Tap the start card to leave the manual. Game over offers Watch Ad to Continue (respawn a short worm, keep the score) and Play Again (full reset). If an ad pause freezes the sim, wait for resume rather than mashing directions.

Background

Snake is older than most of the phones that still host it: a light cycle with an appetite. WormS keeps a 600-by-400 pixel field (thirty by twenty cells at twenty pixels), wrap-less walls, and food that never spawns on the body. Power-ups (speed up, slow down, grow 1.5x, shrink 0.5x, invincible, 1.5x speed, 0.67x speed) last ten seconds. Invincible is the only one that lets you kiss a wall or a tail and live, wrapping the head if you hit an edge. The file is self-contained so the portal can serve it as an iframe without a framework. It is meant to feel like a lunchroom phone game, not a streaming battle-royale.

Review

The neon-on-navy look is on-theme for this site and easier to read than a black-on-black phone port. Power-up badges under the board tell you what is actually running, which snake clones often forget. Invincible is funny for ten seconds and then you still have to drive. Grow can trap you in your own coil if you take it in a corner. On a keyboard the game is crisp; on a small phone swipe thresholds can eat a turn if you twitch — aim for longer strokes. It will not satisfy a speedrunner who wants TAS-level step control. It will satisfy anyone who wants an unblocked snake with a little chaos.

Strategy

Hug the walls in a spiral and eat toward the center, not the other way around. When a grow drops, clear space first. When shrink drops, that is your moment to cut across the board. Invincible is for escaping a box, not for farming while you sleep. If two speed effects fight, watch the badges and steer as if the faster one won. Never chase food through a one-cell gap unless the tail is about to vacate it. Continue after a rewarded ad if you were in a personal-best coil; restart if the board is already a knot. Slow is safer than fast for high scores. Fast is for showing off.
