Keep the stack flat and leave a one-wide well on the right until you have an I-piece. Use hold to park that I rather than rotating in panic. Hard drop when the ghost is clearly correct; soft drop when you are threading a skimmer. Combos pay — after a single, dump the next piece into the same hole if you can. Treat power-ups as recovery, not a plan: extra life is for a misdrop, freeze is for a messy top, bomb is for a buried well. If the stack is already at row four, stop looking for a miracle four-line clear and burn singles to live.
